The South African Medical Research Council
The South African Medical Research Council is an organisation that is solely dedicated to improving the quality of the country’s health system by conducting supporting researches across the whole spectrum of medical science. The council was established in 1969 to act as an independent statutory body in systemising the health and medical field of South Africa. The Medical Research Council of South Africa is mandated to conduct and fund researches in hospitals, SAMRC units, universities, in medical centers and institutes in and around South Africa.

The South Africa Medical Research Council’s role and mission
The SAMRC plays a great role in seeing to it that research projects of disease like HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, cardiovascular and chronic diseases, gender and health issues, alcohol and other drug abuse are conducted. It is the responsibility of the council to plan and take care of the operation and strategic objectives that boost the country’s health system, in line with the Department of Health. The council keeps on unearthing and identifying the causes of death in the country.
Its mission is to advance South Africa’s health and quality of life and address the injustice by providing relevant funding and responsive health research, capacity development, innovation and research translation. SAMRC is a member of the Innovative Vector Control Consortium, which is a non-profit organisation that is designed to advance the establishment and delivery of new and improved vector control tools for prevention of malaria and other tropical diseases.
